Unilock Construction in North Las Vegas, NV | Slatestone Contractors
We install and repair Unilock pavers and wall systems across North Las Vegas, from Aliante to Tule Springs. What makes our work here different is simple: we build on desert soil, not imported topsoil. That means every Unilock project we do in this city starts with the caliche, the expansive clay, and the grading schedule already accounted for. Call (833) 734-5541 for a free estimate. As an independent installer, we’re not tied to any Unilock warranty or sales program. We recommend what holds up here, and we stand behind our own workmanship.
Why North Las Vegas Residents Choose Us for Unilock Service
We’ve laid thousands of square feet of Unilock pavers and walls across North Las Vegas’s new-build subdivisions, and we know how each profile handles this valley’s specific ground conditions. Brent Calloway grew up in Green Valley back when Henderson was still finding its footing, and he’s been working southern Nevada soil ever since. He learned the trade through CSN’s construction technology program, and he started Slatestone because he wanted a crew small enough to actually stand behind every job. When a Brussels Block driveway heaves in 89031 or an Eco-Priora patio loses its joint sand after monsoon season, we know the failure mode before we even get the call. We’re a full-scope general contractor with 50+ brand partnerships, and Unilock sits alongside Belgard and Techo-Bloc in our hardscaping line. One contract, one schedule, one point of contact.

Common Unilock Construction Problems We Solve in North Las Vegas
- Efflorescence on Brussels Block and Beacon Hill. The water here carries a high mineral load, and when monsoon moisture cycles through the paver surface, it pulls those salts up as white streaks. In the 89030 corridor especially, where irrigation water can be harder than anywhere else in the city, we see this constantly. We clean it and seal it so it doesn’t come back the same way.
- Edge spalling on driveways from UV-degraded polymeric sand. Summer highs at 105 to 115 degrees bake the sand faster than most manufacturers’ ratings anticipate. Once the sand breaks down, pavers shift and chip along the edges. We re-sand with a mix that’s rated for desert UV loads.
- Settlement and heaving in older neighborhoods. Around 89030 and the downtown core, original subgrade was never over-excavated to handle expansive clay. When the clay swells with winter moisture and shrinks in summer, pavers move. We re-engineer the base, not just patch the surface.
- Color fade and chipping on Uni-Decor walls. Thermal shock from repeated 115-degree days and cold desert nights stresses the surface, and caliche-laden backfill traps moisture against the wall units. That combination eats at the face of the wall faster than most people expect.
- Paver heaving where grading wasn’t finished. New subdivisions north and west of Aliante often have freshly graded lots that haven’t settled. We’ll get to this more below, but it’s one of the most common calls we field in 89087 and 89032.
Unilock Service in North Las Vegas: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Equipment
North Las Vegas’s fast-track subdivision permitting often locks paver installs into a grading schedule that must finish before the summer heat window. That means crews are frequently installing over freshly graded desert soil that hasn’t fully settled. In Tule Springs and the newer sections of Aliante, we regularly see lots where the pad was cut, filled, and compacted within a matter of weeks, then the builder’s schedule demands hardscape before June. If you lay Unilock pavers over soil that hasn’t had a full winter to consolidate, you’re asking for settlement. The clay here expands and contracts dramatically with moisture, and unconsolidated fill won’t resist that movement. That’s why we over-excavate, moisture-condition the clay subgrade, and compact in lifts rather than trusting whatever the grader left behind. Build it right the first time. The desert has a long memory.
Unilock Models & Products We Service in North Las Vegas
We work with the Unilock lines most common in southern Nevada: Brussels Block, Beacon Hill, Eco-Priora, and Uni-Decor. Brussels Block and Beacon Hill are the workhorses for driveways and patios in the 2000s-era stucco-and-tile tract homes west of the 215. Eco-Priora shows up on newer builds where drainage and permeability matter. Uni-Decor walls are the vertical backdrop for front yards in Aliante. We use Unilock’s own OEM pavers and wall units for color and dimensional match on repairs, but we don’t shy from quality aftermarket polymeric sands and base aggregates when they outperform on local soils. Repair is often viable for isolated settlement or efflorescence. Full replacement only when base failure is widespread or spalling exceeds 20 percent of the surface.

FAQs – Unilock Construction in North Las Vegas
Can Unilock pavers be installed over the caliche layers common in North Las Vegas?
Yes, but not directly. Caliche is a hard, cement-like layer that stops water from draining and prevents proper base compaction. We over-excavate through it, bring in engineered base, and moisture-condition the clay below before laying pavers. Skipping that step is why so many driveways in this city fail within five years. Call (833) 734-5541 if you suspect your lot has shallow caliche, we’ll tell you what we’re dealing with before we quote.
Why does my Unilock Brussels Block driveway keep getting white patches?
That’s efflorescence, and in North Las Vegas it’s driven by the high mineral content in local water combined with monsoon moisture cycling through the paver surface. The salts migrate up and crystallize as white bloom. We clean it with the right technique for Unilock’s concrete formula, then seal against repeat cycles. Call (833) 734-5541 for an exact assessment, and ask us about the sealant we use for desert conditions.
How soon after grading can Unilock pavers be installed in a new North Las Vegas subdivision?
This depends on the lot. Ideally, the subgrade settles through at least one full winter before pavers go down. In fast-track subdivisions where the builder’s timeline doesn’t allow that, we compact the fill in lifts and moisture-condition the clay to accelerate stability. If you’re in a brand-new build, don’t let anyone lay pavers over soil that’s been in place less than a couple of months without that extra work. Call (833) 734-5541 to have us look at your specific lot.
Do Unilock pavers hold up to 115°F summers and monsoon flash floods?
They do, when installed correctly. The pavers themselves are rated for the heat. What fails more often is the base underneath and the sand in the joints. UV degradation of polymeric sand in sustained 115-degree heat is a real problem here, and flash flood water will find any weakness in the base. We use sand and base materials selected for southern Nevada, not the national default. Call (833) 734-5541 if your existing joints are failing, and we’ll tell you what’s underneath before we quote.
Can you match my existing Unilock wall or paver color for a repair in an older North Las Vegas neighborhood?
Yes. We use Unilock’s own OEM pavers and wall units for repairs, so the color and dimensional match are true. For older installs where the original color has faded under sun exposure, the match won’t be perfect, but it’s usually close enough that most homeowners accept it after we discuss the options. In the 89030 corridor especially, where original installs date back further, we’ll bring samples and show you what the match will look like. Call (833) 734-5541 for an inspection.
